W.E. Stand Club members join Girls Learn International Southern Region Chapter delegates at the 65th Commission on the Status of WomenRead Now
Two of our club members attended NGO parallel events with members of our regional chapters of Girls Learn International at this year's Commission on the Status of Women (CSW65) at the United Nations. The event was held virtually in March, 2021 as a response to the ongoing health, safety and travel restrictions of the COVID-19 pandemic. Getzemany Rodriguez and Stefanie Zarate were selected by Girls Learn International to serve as delegates and attend virtual parallel events at CSW65! They collaborated with women and girls from across the United States and countries around the world to discuss issues such as the impact of the Coronavirus pandemic on women and girls around the world, politics, power and activism as well as the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. Read more about the parallel events they attended and their experiences in their blog posts.
What is the Commission on the Status of Women?
The Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) is the principal global intergovernmental body exclusively dedicated to the promotion of gender equality and the empowerment of women. The CSW is instrumental in promoting women’s rights, documenting the reality of women’s lives throughout the world, and shaping global standards on gender equality and the empowerment of women. CSW65 took place at the United Nations Headquarters in New York from 15 to 26 March 2021.
What are Non-Governmental Organizations (NGO)?
NGO CSW/NY organizes the civil society side of the UN CSW. The NGO CSW Forum runs parallel to the events occurring during the CSW. This provides civil society the opportunity to engage in the processes and events of CSW without ECOSOC-accreditation or a UN grounds pass.
